Syabas – Selangor Water Supply

Malaysia's Largest Water Operator

Syabas, officially known as Syarikat Bekalan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd, was incorporated to manage the distribution of treated water throughout Selangor, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, and Putrajaya. At its peak, Syabas supplied clean and safe treated water to more than 7 million consumers through an extensive network of pipes, pumping stations, and water treatment facilities.

History of SYABAS

Syabas was established as the concession company responsible for Selangor's water distribution. Its operations covered a wide geographic area encompassing urban centres such as Petaling Jaya, Shah Alam, and Klang, as well as outlying districts. Over the years, Syabas invested heavily in upgrading aging infrastructure to reduce non-revenue water and improve supply reliability.

Transition to Air Selangor

Following the restructuring of Selangor's water industry, Syabas's operations were consolidated under Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor). Air Selangor took over water distribution responsibilities to create a more efficient and consumer-focused water utility. Existing Syabas water accounts were automatically migrated to the Air Selangor system.

Water Quality Standards

Syabas was obligated under its concession agreement to continuously monitor water quality to ensure it met the standards set by the Ministry of Health Malaysia. Water treatment plants across Selangor subjected raw water from reservoirs and rivers to rigorous treatment processes including coagulation, sedimentation, filtration, and chlorination before distribution to consumers.
